Deepak Marriage

Deepak is one of my good friend who was doing his MS in IIT Madras , when I joined DON lab there in Aug 2001.

Long after I left DON lab to join HCL , he completed his M.S :-). And immediately after completing his M.S he married.

The marriage itself was at Vasavi Mahal in Cantonment , Trichy . The food was exceptionallyu good :-) as it was typical Brahmin Marriage , and I enjoyed all of it.

The photo at the right was the only one I took on that day , when the bride and bride groom were asked to sit in a "Oonjal"

I was hoping to meet my old IIT friends there in his marriage , but sadly very few , I know , turned up .

Motorola E398

Motorola E398
Originally uploaded by megarajan.
Friends,

For long , I was wanting to get myself a new mobile. My Existing piece, Motorola c650 was showing its limitations and I was getting bored with it. Though it was capable of doing what I wanted , there was little space in it , to do more .

The mobile itself had only 2 MB of memory , which will be capaable to hold a couple of mp3 ringtones, a couple of good photos . Whenever I went out on trips , I was limited by the number of photos I can store in it.

So I was looking at buying a Motorola E398 for a long time. The time for it came and I got it immediately.

The important features of Motorola E398 that distinguish it from other so called mobiles are :

1. VGA Camera
2. MP3 Player
3. Stereo Speakers
4. 64 MB Flash Card .

VGA Camera:

The quality of the pictures taken using the VGA Camera is an average one in the eyes of a die hard photo lover , but very good for on the spot photo sessions and when compared to other mobile cameras .

You can see some of the photos taken using the Motorola E398 here .

E398 Photos

MP3 Player

The MP3 Player allows you to play MP3 songs from the Trans Flash Card with a good quality .

You may like to hear that this is the only mobile with Stereo Speakers in the market. I havent heard of any other brand giving a Stereo speaker in a mobile.

Trans Flash Card

The 64 MB Trans Flash Card gives enough space to store photos , mp3 ringtones and a dozen good quality mp3 songs.

The things that are included in box are

Handset
Battery
Charger
Manual
CD with software
CD with Multimedia Content
USB-cable
Stereo headset
64 Mb memory card (TransFlash)

All of this comes at rock bottom prices , when compared with other brands.

The price of this Mobile as I write now is 11,500 K .

Go Get Yourself one !!!

The photo was taken in his new camera , and I look very cool in this blue outfit. I never imagined that I dressed as good as this one shows.

Evil Gmail ..... ????

evil-gmail

Hey ,

You all know that the Corporate philosophy of Google is "Do No Evil" , if you haven't known till now , you have known it now. :-)

A regular user of Google's products and an equal admirer of them , I recently had a bad taste of Google.

After using Yahoo Mail consistently for a very long time ( must be 4 years ), I recently shifted my loyalty to Gmail . All was going fine till one fine day.

Gmail has a list of supported browsers ( IE , Firefox and Netscape ). For the people at Google , browsers other than these ones dont exist at all in this world .

But sadly the fact is not so. I am a regular user of Opera and was very much sad at seeing it not being supported by Gmail .

But anyway I started using Gmail in Opera. After a statutory warning , I was able to see my Gmail account in Opera. I was using like this for some time. I got the same view , when I used IE or Firefox to access Gmail.

Suddenly one fine day , Gmail gave a warning that it was giving me a scaled down , HTML view , which had less features and crippled than the original view. I was never asked whether I would like this , or I was never told How I could change this behaviour to the old one...

This is something not befitting of Google and its Corporate Philosophy.
As a user of a not supported browser , I know that I may have some crashes , or unxepected bugs. But they simply cannot force me to use a browser which I dont like and for the simple reason that they have mentioned it as unsupported.

Gmail was working fine in my unsupported Opera and I simply could not take this forcing of usage.

Google has gone bad these days ...

For one more instance of an evil doing of Google , have a look at

The Indian Broad Gauge Dream

LocalTrain
Originally uploaded by megarajan.

All over the world many cities have intra-city trains or metro trains running. You can cite many examples such as Chennai, Calcutta , Delhi, Tokyo etc.

But since I havent visited all these places I cannot tell you about them all.
Let me tell about the experiences I have in my home city , Chennai , in the trains that traverse thru it .

Why Should you read about Trains in Chennai ?

Bcos Chennai was the one of the first city in India to catch on the Metro train concept ( I have no evidence for this , its only empirical ) and was the last city to give up on it.

Chennai was the last city in the whole World to still have Metre Gauge train running in it. The world did not like having Chennai this distinction and hence the Metre gauge train was Converted to Broad Gauge train in the year of 2004 .

Thus Chennai bade farewell to the transport which was responsible for the growth it had seen .

The last day the Metre gauge Train ran was an emotional experience for people who travel daily by it and was news for others. I made sure that I came to Office by train on that day. I know of a friend who travelled from Nungambakkam to Tambaram and came back , just to register the memory of the last experience.

What you see in the right is the new , shining , polished Broad Gauge train that runs now .

Hmmm ....

Though only 3 films old he has made a big mark in the highly competitive and highly creative tamil film industry.

Book Review :

In this book , Bala tells about his life , the path he came thru , the experiences he had, the mistakes he made . Everything is told in a bold , non-aggressive manner , which is very much likeable.

He puts forth his quest for understanding life and reason for doing things which otherwise a normal person would not like to do .

Some of the things he did include doping (ganja) among many other things.

But finally he found out what was in him and came to balu Mahendra to work as an assistant director.

From this point I lost interest as it was more of the workings of the film industry .

1. Must read for any person who wants to understand about creative persons.
2. Must read for any aspiring director .
3. Must read for any person who wants to succeed in life.

Ultimately his life proves that its not the mistakes that matter , but what you learn from them .

I dont know whether the "thing" this person rides will qualify for a cycle , but somehow this "thing" seems to look like a cycle :-) .

It has 2 wheels , 1 chain and pedals and apart from these things there are a number of things fitted onto this mean machine , the purpose of which I am not aware.

Anyway this looked like a interesting thing , hence cliked it right away .

Another view of this mean machine can be viewed at
